BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY AND THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF LABOR PARTNER TO EXPAND EMPLOYEE SKILLS AND CREATE NEW JOBS

Burlington, NJ - The New Jersey Department of Labor has awarded Burlington Coat Factory a training grant of $546,000 to develop the skills of its existing workforce and encourage the creation of new jobs. The company will match $442,138 of the grant.

Department of Labor Commissioner, Albert G. Kroll, and other Department members will visit Burlington Coat Factory's recently opened distribution center in Edgewater Park, New Jersey on Friday, November 8. Kroll will tour the 650,000 square foot facility and present the grant check to Burlington Coat Factory executives.

The grant will support communications, leadership, problem solving and computer skills programs conducted by the New Jersey Institute of Technology for Burlington Coat Factory employees. The new Edgewater Park distribution center currently employs over 300 area residents, and when fully operational, will ultimately employ over 600.

"The grant is important because it provides for important programs that enable our employees to expand their skills. They have the opportunity to develop professionally, and we have more skilled employees. The benefits are far-reaching," says David Sanford, Vice President of Warehousing and Distribution at Burlington Coat Factory. He adds, "Our employees that have been involved in similar training programs exhibit a real sense of pride in what they have been able to accomplish."

The Workforce Development Partnership Program, part of the State Department of Labor, funds customized grants for New Jersey companies. The grants provide for workforce development that leads to corporate productivity and growth.
