BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY IMPLEMENTS CHILD SAFETY INITIATIVE "CODE ADAM" IN STORES NATIONWIDE

January 7, 2002- Burlington, NJ  - Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. is proud to announce it will soon implement the child safety program "Code Adam" in all of its stores nationwide. Code Adam was created in 1994 to help prevent child abduction from public places.

Employees in participating stores are trained to follow specific procedures in the event of suspected child abduction. When a child is reported missing to store associates, a Code Adam alert is sounded over the store's public address system. Facility exits are monitored and designated employees stop working to perform a search of the store for the missing child. The local police department is notified if the child is not safely reunited with its parent or guardian within ten minutes.

Code Adam was named in honor of 6-year old Adam Walsh, who was taken from a Florida shopping center and later murdered in 1981. The case brought child abduction to national attention. Code Adam works to prevent child abduction in 18,000 stores across the nation. Burlington Coat Factory feels strongly about protecting children within its stores and the community.

Burlington Coat Factory is one of the nation's leading outerwear and apparel retailers, owning and operating more than 310 stores in 42 states.
