In 2001, Burlington Coat Factory launched partnerships with local highway safety agencies across the country, sponsoring car seat safety inspections at stores nationwide. According to a recent survey conducted by U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 81 percent of all child safety seats are improperly installed, needlessly exposing children to an increased risk of serious injury. Navigating the world of child seat safety and the wealth of resources available can be confusing and overwhelming. At Project Checkpoint™ events, certified safety seat experts inspect vehicles for proper installation and operation of child restraints. Project Checkpoint™ events often include child fingerprinting, costume characters, balloons and entertainment for children. This event is free to the public.
