Vendor Ticket Bar Code Specifications
BAR CODE TYPE: 128-C (20 digits Numeric)

Bar Code Specifications:
  • 2 digits - Register Department (Based on the class and merchandise department)
  • 3 digits - Class
  • 7 digits – SKU (1 through 7) – Only 7 of the 8 digit sku number is in the bar code, but all 8 digits are printed in the human readable below the bar code.
  • 6 digits - Retail price of item. - Items over $9,999.99 will be zero and price taken from PLU. For Multi-part tickets, ticket 1 will have the price. The other tickets will have 0 for this value (000000).
  • 1 digit - Encoded Multi-item ticket number, i.e. a three piece suit will have a ticket automatically generated for each piece up to 3 pieces.

Check Digit Calculation:
  1. Each digit is multiplied by a weight (number), and then the results are summed up. The weights are a repeating sequence of 3 and 1

    Value 1 = (barcode digit 1) x 3
    Value 2 = (barcode digit 2) x 1
    Value 3 = (barcode digit 3) x 3
    Value 4 = (barcode digit 4) x 1
    Value 5 = (barcode digit 5) x 3
    Value 6 = (barcode digit 6) x 1
    Value 7 = (barcode digit 7) x 3
    Value 8 = (barcode digit 8) x 1
    Value 9 = (barcode digit 9) x 3
    Value 10 = (barcode digit 10) x 1
    Value 11 = (barcode digit 11) x 3
    Value 12 = (barcode digit 12) x 1
    Value 13 = (barcode digit 13) x 3
    Value 14 = (barcode digit 14) x 1
    Value 15 = (barcode digit 15) x 3
    Value 16 = (barcode digit 16) x 1
    Value 17 = (barcode digit 17) x 3
    Value 18 = (barcode digit 18) x 1
    Value 19 = (barcode digit 19) x 3



  2. All of the values (1 – 19) are added up for a total


  3. The total is divided by 10 and the remainder is determined


  4. If the remainder is 0 then the check digit is 0, otherwise the check digit is the remainder subtracted from 10.

  • For tickets there should be at least an inch between the bottom of the price and the bottom of the ticket. This is so there is adequate space for a markdown label.
Final approval of the new ticket must come from the Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Information Technology department. For approval, please send the actual tickets to the following address:
